Youth Hockey Program Open To New & Returning Players

Lyndon Area Youth Hockey Association’s registration is underway and open to all new and returning players. The season is scheduled to begin on Oct. 22.

LAYHA is a co-ed organization with teams serving children 14 and under. The program provides opportunities for hockey players through its travel teams as well a novice skaters and those new to hockey through its Learn to Skate program and younger development teams.

The Learn to Skate program is open by donation to new skaters who may have an interest in playing hockey in the future. The program runs the first half of the season and will focus on skating basics as well as rudimentary hockey skills for those who advance the furthest. Following the program skaters who are ready and wish to continue this season with LAYHA will have an opportunity to join their age appropriate team at a prorated cost.

At the 8 and under age group LAYHA offers three levels of hockey instruction. Mini Mites is intended for the youngest players as well as those just developing basic hockey skills. House Mites will further hockey and skating development and introduce a limited number of games and jamborees into the season. The Travel Mites team is for those 8 and under interested in playing a full schedule of games at a more competitive level.

LAYHA also offers travel teams at the 10 and under, 12 and under, and 14 and under age levels.

LAYHA is dedicated to developing and improving the ice hockey skills of all its players and places particular emphasis on sportsmanship, teamwork, and equal ice time (especially at the younger levels).

For new and returning players in need of equipment, LAYHA has a sizeable collection of gently used equipment in most child sizes at very reasonable prices. Let us know what you are interested in by emailing trexford@hotmail.com and we will check our inventory. Another option is a season-long equipment rental that can be made through Fenton Chester Ice Arena. Fittings are by appointment and can be arranged by calling the rink at 626-9361.
