Congratulations to the 12U Orange team for winning the Stowe Winter Carnival this past weekend, beating the Connecticut Seahawks 4-3 in a thrilling sudden-death shootout in Sunday’s championship game at Stowe Arena!
On Friday, LAYHA beat Stowe 3-0 on goals by Nick Matteis, Aiden Hale and Daniel Brennan, with goalie Garett Shatney preserving the shutout with 11 saves. On Saturday, LAYHA beat the Connecticut Seahawks 2-1 in tight game that featured a penalty shot goal by Clara Andre and a nifty wrap-around goal by Luke Clarner in the third period. Goalie Logan Miller had 22 saves in the game. Saturday’s action also included a 4-2 loss to the Connecticut Whalers, with Gehrig Beck and Aiden Hale scoring for LAYHA.
Sunday’s championship game featured goals by Nick Matteis and Daniel Brennan during regulation play, but Conn. tied the game 2-2 with three seconds remaining in the third period. After a scoreless five-minute overtime, Matteis matched a Conn. goal in the best-of-three player shootout, forcing a sudden-death extended shootout. Following a missed attempt by Conn., Beck scored the game-deciding goal with a wrist shot that beat the goalie glove side.
