Start Of The Season

Details on how rink troubles have forced changes to the start of our season.

As many of you may have already heard, the start of our season will not get underway as we originally planned.

Fenton Chester Arena has had some mechanical issues and will not have ice ready in time. Rink management has assured us they are working as fast as they can to get the problems resolved and get us back on track, but they cannot yet give us a definite date for when that will be. We believe our first 2 weeks have been affected by this.

As a result, the LAYHA board is arranging a limited practice schedule at alternate rinks to allow those who can attend a chance to get on the ice. While the details are still being confirmed, it roughly is shaping up like this:

Tuesday, Oct. 22, 6-7 p.m. at Jay Peak - for all groups from 8U House up through 14U.

Saturday, Oct. 26, at Wendell A. Barwood Arena in Hartford/White River Junction. We will have 3 hours in the late morning allowing us to run a combined 8U (Mini, House, Travel) & 10U practice; a 12U practice; and a 14U practice. Exact times are to be determined.

Monday, Oct. 28, 6-7 p.m. at Jay Peak - combined 12U & 14U practice

Tuesday, Oct. 29, 6-7 p.m. at Jay Peak - combined 8U & 10U practice.

Saturday/Sunday, Nov. 2/3, some teams may have an away game, others will have a practice at Hartford.

We know this kind of travel, especially on a school night, will be challenging, as such these practices are optional, we just didn't want to wait 2 more weeks before getting on the ice. There is also the possibility we may be skating at Fenton Chester by the weekend of Nov. 2/3, in which case we would schedule whatever makeup practices we can there.

We will begin the Learn To Skate program once we have Saturday ice at Fenton Chester.

Please check the LAYHA website and Facebook page often as we will be putting out updates and further information there as details are confirmed and we learn more from the rink.

For those with smartphones or tablets you are encouraged to get the free SportsEngine app. SportsEngine is our website host and the app is directly connected to the website. If you have the app and are properly signed in to your team page, the app provides instant notifications as we make schedule changes and issue announcements. The app also provides a chat function for team members that may be a great way to coordinate carpooling to these practices. Coaches also often use the app to communicate important information during the season.

Again, we are sorry for the delay and we will keep you informed as best we can.

Thanks for your patience,

Andrew McGregor
